Medical - Physician Advisory Board Members

Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., M.P.H., is senior vice president and chief medical officer of Aetna. He directs Aetna’s National Quality Management and Clinical Policy units and provides oversight for Aetna’s full range of clinical operations, including disease management programs and patient management services. Prior to joining Aetna, Dr. Brennan served as president and CEO of Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization from 2000-2006. Prior to these responsibilities, he served as director of quality measurement and improvement at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was also a practicing internist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital until 2006. In his academic work, he has served as professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and professor of law and public health at Harvard School of Public Health.

William F. Gee, M.D., is a practicing urologist and former chair of Health Policy for the American Urological Association (AUA). He has also been actively involved with health policy issues since 1989. He has testified before Congress on a number of occasions on behalf of urology and other specialties. Dr. Gee is a past president of the American Association of Clinical Urologists (1998-1999) and is, at present, treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the AUA.

Robert T. Gunby Jr., MD is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist who is active in organized medicine. The Texas Medical Association House of Delegates chose him as president-elect of the association and he assumed the TMA presidency in May 2005. Prior, he was a member of the TMA Council on Socioeconomics where he met with insurance carriers to seek fair treatment for physicians. He was involved with political issues while serving as chair of the Texas Medical Association Political Action Committee Board of Directors. He also has served on the TMA Committee on Access to Health Care.

H. Robert Harrison, D.Phil., M.D., M.P.H., is a practicing pediatrician, epidemiologist and pediatric infectious diseases consultant from Atlanta, GA. Dr. Harrison is a member of the Medical Association of Georgia and serves as a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Epidemiologic Society. He also serves on the Medical Practice Committee of the Medical Association of Georgia.

Scott D. Hayworth, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is president and CEO of Mount Kisco (New York) Medical Group, P.C., a 115-physician multi-specialty group. Dr. Hayworth is a fellow of, and an active member in, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and is vice-chair of ACOG District 2 (New York). He is also on the Board of Directors of the American Medical Group Association and was a past president of the Westchester County (New York) Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.

Russell C. Libby, M.D., F.A.A.P., is a board-certified pediatrician. He is founder and president of the Virginia Pediatric Group, Ltd. and chief of General Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children. Dr. Libby is a former president of the Medical Society of Northern Virginia and is actively involved with the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Home Care Physicians.

J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, M.D., F.A.C.P., is deputy chief medical officer for the American Cancer Society and also manages the Society’s Cancer Control Science Department. Dr. Lichtenfeld is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and is an active member in a number of professional societies, including the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association. Dr. Lichtenfeld has extensive experience in physician payment issues and currently is a member of the Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) of the AMA, which advises Medicare on their physician fee schedule.

Diane E. Wallis, M.D., is a noninvasive cardiologist with Midwest Heart Specialists, Ltd. in the Chicago area. She is the governor and president of the Illinois Chapter of the American College of Cardiology, serves on the Illinois State Task Force for Stroke Prevention and is on the Board of Directors of the Greater Midwest Affiliate of the American Heart Association. She is chair of the American College of Cardiology Coding and Nomenclature Committee and serves as the AMA CPT Editorial Panel advisor.

Michael G. Workings, M.D., is a practicing primary care physician in the Henry Ford Health System located in the Detroit, Michigan area. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians, as well as the AMA and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He also serves as the Team Physician for the Detroit Tigers and the University of Detroit Mercy.
